The paleo diet aims to take nutrition back to the basics—to the way Paleolithic people ate. But prehistoric people didn’t eat boneless chicken breasts and pre-washed baby spring mix. Tory Taylor set out to discover what folks really ate thousands of years ago.

Recipes
Spruce or Fir Bud Tea
- 1 cup of the tender young spruce tips in spring
- 1 quart water
- Simmer for 1 hour
- Drink hot or cold to treat bronchial-pulmonary problems
Rose Hip Tea
- 1 cup rose hips in winter
- 1 quart water
- Steep for 1 hour
- Best to drink immediately to treat sore throat, cold or flu to take advantage of high vitamin C
Paleo Stir Fry
- Melt 2 tbsp. elk fat or bone marrow in a hot pan
- Add:
- 1 cup chopped elk meat
- 1 cup chopped wild onion
- 1 cup chopped dandelion greens
- 1 cup chopped lamb quarters
- 1 cup fresh bolete or morel mushrooms
- 1 tsp. salt
- Stir fry each item quickly as added
- Serve immediately
